Travel Wheel
Ever since I came to US alone in 2015, I started a wild journey of exploring the world. In my first year, I went to most major cities in US like Chicago, NYC, SF, LA, which gave me great cultural and educational inspiration. I also tried a US specific travel style called road trip, driving numerous hours in national parks with breathtaking landscape like Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain, Yosemite, etc. Later on, I stepped on my very first solo-trip to Cuba, and then I fell in love with the feeling of freedom when traveling alone. So I went to Iceland, Denmark, Pennsylvania for sky diving, Monterey Bay in California for scuba diving, etc.
If I’m not traveling, I’m probably planning for my next travel.
— So I called it Travel Madness.
I’ve wanted to make some fun design to record my travels for a while. My first attempt was using sketch to manually create my design, and label the destination I travel to. As I stepped into data visualization field, I found it interesting to recreate the same idea in code. After a few trial, I decided to use sunburst chart to visualize my travel.
Here is my travel wheel in a creative and delightful sunburst chart!
The colors actually indicate different places I live among those period of time, but the main message here is the collection of the travel history.
I am definitely looking to spend more time on design iteration for this travel visualization idea.
